# [Required Reading] Casey Handmer’s thoughts on DOGE

A 5-point book rating system I came up with

Very few things ever fall under the 5-star category, and that’s by design. [This post](https://caseyhandmer.wordpress.com/2024/12/02/why-do-we-need-a-department-of-government-efficiency/) by [Casey Handmer](https://x.com/cjhandmer?s=21) on the cost of government inefficiency does, though, and I wanted to share it to everyone. It may not be a book, but it qualifies for me given the topic and (hopefully) it’s potential impact.

Some non-spoiler reasons for why it’s so good:

-   It is not a partisan opinion
    
-   Lays out a clear high-level framework for how government inefficiency impacts everyone
    
-   Acknowledges tradeoffs and challenges
    
-   Focuses on the biggest problems worth solving (rather than getting bogged down in smaller ROI ones)
